Type of computer network
Local Area Network (LAN)
This is one of the original categories of network, and one of the simplest.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
This is another of the original categories of network, and slightly more
complex in nature.
Storage Area Network (SAN)
This network connects servers directly to devices which store amounts of data
without relying on a LAN or WAN network to do so.
Metropolitan area network (MAN)
is a network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic
area or region larger than that covered by even a large local area network
(LAN) but smaller than the area covered by a wide area network (WAN).
Personal area network (PAN)
is the interconnection of information technology devices within the range of an
individual person, typically within a range of 10 meters.
Body area network (BAN)
also referred to as a wireless body area network (WBAN) or a body sensor
network (BSN), is a wireless network of wearable computing devices.
Campus Area Network (CAN)
A campus area network (CAN) is a network of multiple interconnected local area
networks (LAN) in a limited geographical area.
